Solar Orphan Service®

Reliable support for solar systems when your original installer is no longer available.

The solar industry has changed rapidly over the years. Many companies come and go, while others shift their business models or stop offering service altogether. Your solar system is built to last for 25 to 30 years, and when your installer disappears, you are left without the support you were originally promised.

Exact Solar has been around for over 20 years, and our Solar Orphan Service® gives both homeowners and business owners a dependable partner when their original installer can no longer help. Whether your system was abandoned mid-installation, has stopped producing, or simply needs professional oversight, our team is here to evaluate, repair, and support existing solar systems throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

What is a “Solar Orphan”?

A “solar orphan” is a solar energy system whose original installer is no longer able or willing to provide service. This may happen if a company goes out of business, no longer staffs a service department, or becomes unresponsive.

When this occurs, system owners are left without:

Our Solar Orphan Service® fills that gap with reliable, long-term support.

Why Does This Happen?

The solar industry has grown quickly. As markets change, some companies consolidate while others shut down entirely. When that happens, thousands of systems are left without service.

For homeowners, this can lead to unexpected repair bills or lost production. For commercial entities, it can affect operating costs, budgeting, and even safety.

We step in with a structured, professional process to evaluate the system and get it back to proper operation.

How Our Solar Orphan Service® Works

1. System Review

We start by gathering equipment details, monitoring access (if available), your utility information, and any prior documentation you may have.

2. On-Site Inspection

Our trained in-house team completes a comprehensive inspection of the entire system, including roof attachments, wiring, racking, inverters, safety compliance, and production history.

3. Condition Report

You receive a clear, straightforward report outlining the system’s condition, any issues we found, and recommended next steps. We explain everything in plain language.

4. Repairs & Corrections

If repairs are needed, we handle them. This may include electrical work, inverter replacement, monitoring setup, roof attachment repairs, or system updates.

5. Ongoing Support

Once the system is operating correctly, we offer monitoring assistance, periodic checkups, and service options so your system continues producing as expected.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes. Our Solar Orphan Service® supports both residential and commercial systems installed by other companies. We can help even if your original installer has gone out of business or no longer offers support.

Yes. This is one of the most common situations we handle. We take over diagnostics, repairs, and ongoing support for systems abandoned by their original installers.

We can identify your equipment, research manufacturer information, and determine whether any warranties are still active. If you are able to share photos of your equipment, that is very helpful. If more detail is needed, we will schedule an on-site assessment.

Yes. You can start by sending photos of any solar-related components. If we cannot identify the equipment remotely, we will come on-site to document and test your system.

If your equipment is still under manufacturer warranty, the replacement part is covered. Labor is billed separately unless Exact Solar installed the system originally. We handle the warranty claim and install the replacement equipment.

If the part is under warranty, the manufacturer covers the replacement equipment. Labor is not covered and will be billed separately by Exact Solar.

Yes. We can reconnect or rebuild your monitoring platform, help you access real-time and historical production data, and assist with ongoing system oversight.

Yes. We begin with remote diagnostics. If the problem cannot be identified remotely, we will schedule an on-site visit to inspect the system and determine the cause. After identifying the issue, we order the necessary parts and complete the repair.

Absolutely. We evaluate your equipment, wiring, roof attachments, inverters, and production data, then compare actual output to expected performance. You will receive a clear summary and recommended next steps.

Costs depend on the condition of your system and the repairs required. The first step is a system review. Once we diagnose the issue, we provide a clear estimate before beginning any work.

We aim to have a technician on-site within about three weeks of your service request. Timelines may vary if parts are on backorder or if multiple visits are needed.

Photos of equipment, labels, or past paperwork are helpful, along with monitoring login information. Even if you have none of these materials, we can still evaluate and support your system.

Your monitoring app shows total solar production. Your utility bill shows how much energy you send to and take from the grid. You receive credits only for the excess energy exported to the grid, so the two numbers will not match.
